Branham Hills Girls Softball continues to plan for the 2021 spring recreational softball season.
Our priority is the safety of the players, families and volunteers. BHGS will follow the county and state guidelines and start the spring season as soon as it is deemed safe.

Season: March to May

  • Currently, planning a modified spring recreational season from March to May. The season starts on March 16 to May 27.
  • BHGS will follow all recommendations from the county and Union school district.

  • The initial registration fee is $25 (fully refundable if we do not have a season) and the balance due when the season begins March 16.

Spring season is the most popular time of the year for softball!  Over 250 girls participate in BHGS softball in Spring.  All girls are assigned to a team and get playing time, regardless of physical ability, skill level, or financial situation*.  The rules and coaching are adjusted based on age level, so everyone has fun.  Girls as young as four years old really can play softball.

*Scholarships available for families with financial hardship.  Please complete this scholarship application.

Registering siblings qualifies for a sibling discount on registration costs.

Events and Dates

  • March 16: Season begins, first practices
  • Opening Day Ceremonies - Suspended Covid
  • Spring Break - April 5- 10, Practices and Games are voluntary.
  • April 24: Photo Day and Hit-a-thon
  • May 24-27: Last week of the season
  •                     Closing Ceremonies at each division last game.

COVID - Many BHGS volunteers have decided to take the season off. We need volunteer help, if you feel comfortable. Contact a board member for information.  Due to limited resources, yearbook and banners may be suspended, with these fees being applied to PPE safety costs. Snack shack buy outs are suspended

  • Seasonal fee includes jersey, socks, yearbook, trophy, visors (6U only) and photo
  • Team banner is included in registration fee
  • Free skills clinics are held before the season starts and mid-season (Register early to receive notification, they fill up fast!)

Gear Requirements (6U-13U)

  • Required gear to be purchased by family includes softball mitt, pants, slider shorts and cleats(10u-13U).
  • Highly recommended gear includes a batting helmet with face-mask.  The league has a few helmets, but they are shared. Infield safety masks.
  • Optional gear to be purchased by family includes batting gloves, belt, bat.
  • The league is open to all girls, regardless of financial situation.  We typically host a Recycled Equipment Table at the beginning of the season.  Please contact someone on the board if equipment costs are prohibitive for your family.  We will find a way to discreetly get your daughter geared up.

Additional Costs and Family Commitments (6U-13U)

  • End of season celebration / Coaches gifts - Some teams opt to have a year-end celebration party and/or collect donations for coaches' gifts.  These are optional fees, usually $10 to $30 per player.
  • Team Sponsor - Everyone on the team is expected to help find a team sponsor, a company that donates at least $300 for the season.  Typically, sponsorship comes from a local business, team business owner, or corporate sponsors.  The sponsor's logo is included on the team page in the yearbook.  Although the league is dependent on sponsorships to operate (and keep fees low), families are never expected to "chip in" to cover this sponsorship if the team can't find a business to contribute.
  • Snack Shack - Parents are required to volunteer in the Snack Shack.  Games and practices will not begin until the Snack Shack has the necessary number of volunteers.  The Snack Shack Coordinator works with the Team Managers at the beginning of the season to coordinate shifts. If you cannot do your shifts, you can “buyout” using the $75 deposit.
  • Parent involvement - It’s our experience that your daughter will appreciate and benefit enormously from your involvement, and we highly encourage you to attend your daughter’s practices, games and related softball team activities.  In addition, most Coaches and Managers appreciate any extra help they can get so please volunteer to help at practices, games or in team support positions. Don’t worry if you “know nothing about softball”- every parent has something to offer.

Parent Participation

BHGS is 100% volunteer-based organization.  From the board to the coaches, all are volunteers. We cannot exist without your help.  Parents are required to volunteer their time in some capacity including, coaching, assistant coaching, game day field preps, cleanup and maintenance.  Learn about volunteering on the the Board page.

Friend Requests

With the unusual Covid 19 circumstances, we are suspending the friends request rules for this season.

Please feel free to request one friend to buddy and be on your players team. We will try our best to accommodate all requests.

Siblings playing in the same age division will automatically be placed on the same team unless the parent/guardian requests that they be placed on separate teams.

Little Hitters (3-4.5 years old)

  • An introductory program to the BHGS softball program. Players will learn the basic skills of throwing, catching, base running and hitting.
  • Practices/Games will be Saturday mornings for about 45 minutes
  • Location is Alta Vista Elementary School

6 and Under (6U)

  • 6U level is for girls 5 or 6 years old.
  • They learn basic fundamentals of throwing, hitting and catching.
  • Practice/Game are normally on one weekday evenings (Monday) and Saturday mornings.
  • Location is Alta Vista Elementary School
  • Ball and rules are adjusted for the littlest players - 6U Rules
  • Fees: $165



8 and Under (8U)

  • 8U level is for girls 7 or 8 years old.
  • They learn hitting, throwing, and catching along with the rules of the games.  Pitching is done by players with occasional coach pitch.
  • Practice /Game are normally on one weekday evenings (Wednesday) and Saturday mornings.
  • Location is Alta Vista Elementary
  • Rules are age adjusted - 8U Rules
  • Fees $195



10 and Under (10U)

  • COVID CHANGE - Practices and games -Tuesday and Saturday.
  • a10U level is for girls 9 and 10 year olds
  • They learn fundamentals along with rules of the game.  Players pitch and learn base stealing. Teams play in inter-league (against teams from other leagues) and against other BHGS teams.
  • Practice/Game are normally on one to two weekdays (Tuesday/Thursday) evenings and Saturdays.
  • Location is Alta Vista or other local field

13 and Under (13U)

  • 13U level is for girls 11, 12 and 13 years old.
  • Most players have experience in playing but players with no experience are encouraged to play. Teams play in inter-league (against other team from other leagues) and against other BHGS teams.
  • There may be two practices a week and/or 2 games a week (one weekday Thursday/TBA and one Saturday)
  • Location is Alta Vista or other local field
