Coach of the Year Award

Branham Hills Girls Softball Tina Martinetti Coach of the Year Award

2008 By Tammy Klauser, BHGS Player Agent, Coach & Parent

First let me start by saying that I have had the opportunity of my lifetime to meet someone who has made a lasting impression in my life. Someone who has mentored inspired and encouraged me to make a difference. Tina Martinetti was this inspiration behind my idea of the coach of the year award.

Tina first stepped onto these fields as a player herself in the 80’s and that’s how we met and began playing ball together. We built a friendship that outlasted our playing years on these fields, in high school and even when we began coaching together here 7 years ago.

If you ever met Tina you would agree that she had a contagious personality. I cant remember a time when she didn’t laugh. Even if she didn’t know you and you would have had a conversation with her it felt like you had been friends for years when you were through. That’s just one of the things that were so awesome about Tina.
When Tina was diagnosed with breast cancer 10 years ago it was devastating but even worse when we lost her in July 07’ in the midst of her battle. She put up a good fight with a courageous attitude and quitting was never an option for her. She came to these fields everyday and made a difference in the girl’s lives because she loved this game, and the girls associated with it. It’s what she loved to do. Tina taught me that each day is a gift and that we are not guaranteed anything in life.

What we have once enjoyed we can never lose; All that we love deeply, becomes a part of us.
- - Helen Keller

Tina took what she loved best, (softball and friends) and transformed it with her life. She taught us a valuable life lesson to live by, “Find a passion and make a difference”. “Thank You Tina”.

I want to thank each and every coach this season who dedicated their time into the coaching of these girls. I want you to know that the decision into these awards was a tough one because so many letters are written saying the most beautiful things. Coaching takes a special person to step up and commit. Thank you for being that person.

You owe it to yourself to be the best you can possible be - in baseball and in life.
-- Pete Rose
